  • Description of the park

    Introduction

    CAVD (Centrum aplikovaného výzkumu Dobříš) Science and Technology Park (STP) was established on 9.3.2010. The founder and sponsor of the emerging STP in the locality of Dobříš-Stožec the former military area, is a development company of Bussmark Service s.r.o., Prague. Bussmark Services s.r.o. has two shareholders – individual persons who are active in the structures of CAVD s.r.o. The purchase and renovation of the CAVD buildings and the construction of technological facility was funded partly from the founders own resources, the European Structural Funds OPPI (the Prosperity project) and from bank credit resources. The owner and operator of the newly built STP complex in Stožec is CAVD s.r.o.
    Activities of CAVD s.r.o. are primarily focused on three areas:
    – Use of renewable energy sources (pyrolyse wood-gas station, photovoltaics)
    – Purity of water and the environment (with the possibility of use of an experimental wastewater treatment plant ICT Prague, located in the complex of laboratories)
    – New materials, composites (including 3D printing of metallic materials)
    The VTP Center of the Applied Research in Dobříš is a member of Science and Technology Parks Association CR /Společnost vědeckotechnických parků ČR, z.s. (SVTP ČR, z.s., www.svtp.cz)

    The VTP premises create the necessary conditions for implementing the business plans of small and medium-sized companies as well as the results of the scientific research work of teams from universities and research institutes. Particular attention is paid to building the foundation for the start-up and spin-off companies that come with their own project, which is consistent with the VTP’s focus. Start-up firms provide VTP with support in the form of comprehensive consulting and consulting services, technical background, laboratory equipment, advantageous space rental and other benefits of sharing the common VTP space.

    At present, the partner structure of the CAVD Science and Technology Park consists of 64 manufacturing companies, 21 service and interest organizations, as well as 12 universities and research and development institutions. The practice of creating joint teams on a given topic, consisting of staff from universities, research institutes and innovation societies, has been proven. This cooperation has already resulted in joint projects which are being intensively implemented. A significant part of VTP’s work is to develop a business incubator. There is not only the provision of the necessary space, but also technical support, energy, large-capacity infrastructure, high-speed internet, facilities, management, use of prototype workshops, consulting and training facilities, administrative, reception and assistance services, security and ensuring of the complex.

    Description of technology transfer

    The cornerstone of CAVD activity within technology transfer is linking research and application spheres, and provision effective assistance to start co-operations in the implementation of scientific and research results into practice. STP premises are gradually getting occupied by companies that are involved in the implementation of transferred technologies and STP provides them accounting and tax services, legal services, intellectual property protection services, and more.
    In the area of ​​technology transfer in the period 2015 – 2016 CAVD focused on the application of 3D printing technology from high-grade steel applied for example in the development and manufacture of extremely stressed parts of racing special bicycles. After the development of the selected parts of bicycles and its successful testing in practice, FESTKA partner manufacture business prepares conditions for the application of this technology in the products of the company.
    3D printing technology of metal materials has also been applied during the development and design production of special components – structural pipe couplings needed to produce chassis drones. After successful mechanical tests (tensile, bending, compression, etc.) of these parts, the technology with the intent to develop and produce the necessary prototypes were taken by Droneservices, a Czech manufacturer of drones. In both cases, there is also a continuously advisory function of the special department of 3D printing CAVD to solve technological issues with view to gradually establish an expert working for the 3D printing for user-sphere of the area of universities and factories.

    Innovative entrepreneurship training

    CAVD attaches great importance to the strengthening of relations with the established companies as well as other partner organisations. It mainly concerns communicating with these partners and to strengthening contacts with other partner companies for which CAVD provided consulting assistance in developing their new products, before completing development and application base in Stožec. In this context CAVD participates in the events such as a seminars for small and medium-sized energy companies and companies applying new methods and materials, organised by the partner company of ENERGIS 24.

    Advisory services

    In the area of consultancy services, special attention is paid to help companies in the preparation of business focus, administrative assistance in the granting of public contracts, project financing with a focus on the possibility of drawing subsidies from European funds, including analyzes and assistance with the methodology of processing project applications. Part of the advisory and consulting facilities of partner companies is the assistance of VTP in the provision of certification, patent, licensing and legal services and audit, accounting and tax services.

    In addition to lecturing and seminar activities, CAVD participates in the support of the settled and partner companies through a wide range of services. These include, for example, the organization and creation of ad hoc expert teams composed of university and science experts who can effectively participate in addressing the application of science and research results to the operational practice of a specific company. It also includes assistance to companies in the preparation of business plans, feasibility studies and other foundations needed, for example, for the preparation of innovative projects (subsidy consultancy). The interest of companies is the newly launched courses in 2018, focusing on cyber security and preparation for the GDPR system.

    Innovation infrastructure

    The infrastructure of the development and production base of VTP CAVD in Dobříš not only consists of built-up premises, laboratories and offices, but also extensive modern equipment, especially laboratory facilities, available to the expert research teams of the park’s partners as well as for possible professional traineeships and practices of diplomats and doctoral students from higher education institutions.

    These include, for example, the instrument of a modern comprehensive fuel laboratory of VŠCHT with an analyzer for measuring the quality of the combustion process, gas chromatographs with FID and TCD detector, ion chromatograph with autosampler or two-channel gas chromatograph, mass spectrometer and other instruments. With this and other instrumentation techniques, gas and gaseous fluids can be perfectly analyzed for industry and air pollution.

    A separate research and development workspace is also a modular experimental bioreactor, mainly prepared for the research of methods and solutions to the problems of practice in renewable energy sources and second generation biofuels. A bioreactor has a wide range of application options, of which the optimization of biogas technologies from organic waste is very current.

    As part of the development and implementation of the operations and companies in CAVD, METAL 3D is involved in the printing of metallic materials. It is working here with the Renishaw AM250 printer, which has one of the largest workspaces in the Czech Republic. Printing takes place in a super-pure argon-based protective atmosphere that allows the optimal internal structure of printed parts. The system also allows for rapid changes in used metallic materials, which are not yet common in 3D printing technology. It is a universal facility that allows us to focus on the fast and high quality production of parts for a number of different branches of our industry (automotive, precision engineering, foundry, medicine and sports).

    At present, individual 3D metal stamping workspaces are seeking to create a center for the production of additives. On this it is collaborating with university workspaces for 3D printing from metallic materials and companies that use additive production in their production program.

    Regarding the position and location of the CAVD development and implementation base in the forest complex near the town of Dobříš, four woodworking enterprises, whose main production raw material is wood, were gradually selected for the headquartering. Besides the resulting products of these companies (briquettes or pellets from wood chips, structural wood elements, wooden products – endless profiles, etc.), the waste from these productions is also used energy-wise (development of formed biofuel).
    At the same time, VTP provides electrical and thermal energy as well as water from its own resources to the headquartered companies and development workspaces. The new technology for the use of liquid LNG gas is also used for the production of heat and electric power after the actuation of the cogeneration unit. Gradually, the waste-free operation of companies located on the CAVD premises is carried out. Three other companies have their own production program in line with CAVD’s focus.

    Cooperation with the Central Bohemian Region:
    “The cooperation of the CAVD with the Central Bohemian Region is based primarily on active participation in the discussion of the Regional Innovation Strategy and cooperation with the Central Bohemian Innovation Center (SCI). CAVD is a member of the Regional Economic Chamber and actively cooperates with the Brdy-Vltava Local Action Group. This cooperation has so far focused on concrete assistance to the municipality of Ouběnice in the comprehensive solution concerning the cleaning and recycling of waste water in the municipality (joint team with VŠCHT Prague) and on active cooperation on the project of polytechnics schools in the region. We highly appreciate the cooperation with the energy self-sufficient village of Kněžice and thus the possibility of verifying the ideas and the solution of the outputs of the research and development work of VTP in the life of a particular municipality.” An important part of VTP CAVD work is cooperation with the mayors of municipalities in the surrounding region and with the primary, secondary and apprentice schools of Dobříš and Nový Knín areas. Special programs (practical chemistry school, forestry school) are being developed for this purpose in cooperation with partner universities, which help students from secondary and apprentice schools in the region to choose their profession and prepare for further application in practice.

This manufacturing process is very similar to composting, but the stabilisation of the process uses only the thermal composting phase without the intake of other fluids.     BIOPRO Plus has benefited from the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Innovative Voucher for the “Assessment of Technology Using Digestate from Biogas Production”. The objective of the project is to objectively evaluate the possibility of using digestate from industrial water treatment to obtain energy in the CAVD complex.

    The company deals with the recovery of waste biomass, which would otherwise end up in landfills, thus meeting the objectives of a renewable economy. The company operates facilities for the use and pre-treatment of biodegradable waste, mainly from the communal sphere. Within its business activities, the company operates facilities for the production of alternative fuels from waste biomass, which represent an alternative source of energy with a neutral carbon footprint. Together with the Czech Agricultural University, the company gained a Ministry of Trade and Industry’s Innovation Voucher for the development and further research of molded biofuels.
    BTT s.r.o. also received a grant under the Innovation Voucher – Call I from the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the project “Assessment of the Technology for the Energy Recovery of Waste Glycerin”. BTT s.r.o. is working with the participation of VŠCHT in this project. The use and benefits of this project are especially in the possibility of using energy other than unusable waste material from other production. The project will help to replace or complement the existing economically demanding power and heat source in the Dobříš premises for a new source using waste glycerin processed with hydrothermal gasification technology.

    METAL 3D

    The 3D metallic print project called METAL 3 is a highly skilled workspace, which, as one of the first in the Czech Republic, perfectly controls 3D printing from metal powder and offers it as a commercial service. Thanks to the close cooperation with the English manufacturer of Renishaw AM250 instruments, the highest possible quality and precise design of the manufactured parts is guaranteed. This printer has one of the largest workspaces used in the Czech Republic. The workspace prints at a high-quality and a clean protective atmosphere of argon, allowing for the excellent inner structure of printed parts from a variety of metal alloys.
    The production process itself is completely automatic and the material can be almost completely recycled using a vibrating screen. During a single construction, it is possible to print products for several customers by means of a metal powder by laser, without risk of impacting the quality of the resulting product. Stainless steel 316L is currently being used, which has a very versatile use due to its relatively low price and excellent mechanical properties. Suitable production planning and combining of orders can be achieved at a price that is competitive in conjunction with conventional technology and value-added parts such as innovation, optimization, and rapid multistage prototyping. However, the biggest application can be found in cases where time, the resulting product properties or the uniqueness of the solution are decisive. Workspace services are currently used by a number of companies, organizations and academic institutions. Reference customers include, for example: ČVUT FD, RedBull, FESTKA, LUME Eyewear, LIAZ, TECHO, HSV Plasma … as well as starting designers, jewelers and students.

    METAL 3D drew from the Ministry of Industry and Trade Innovative Voucher for the project “Optimizing the Quality of Manufactured Parts”. In cooperation with ČVUT, the aim of this project was to achieve a homogeneous internal structure and the best mechanical properties, including a specification of how these properties are influenced by changing the printing and post-processing parameters. The perfect handling of the processing of 3D printed parts and knowledge of the impact of printing parameters on the resulting properties of the parts will ensure the repeatability of the process and enable Metal 3D to deliver the highest quality parts, thus expanding the production of specific parts that are highly demanding on quality (e.g. medical, aviation). The knowledge gained will significantly increase the applicant’s competitiveness.

    The subject of MYCELIA CZ’s activity is applied research and development in the field of growing edible and medicinal mushrooms in order to produce and sell quality seedlings and fruit plants (including the development of new mushroom-based products) in the field of the health and food industry. Emphasis is placed on developing an ecological approach in the biotechnological process of cultivating mushrooms in order to produce mushrooms at bio-quality. The prerequisite for carrying out the above-mentioned focus is participation in Czech and international research as well as business projects focused on the mentioned topic and cooperation with the academic and business sphere. Together with the Institute of Experimental Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the company received the Innovation Voucher of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the topic “Analysis of Selected Metals in Mushrooms Cultivated Under Controlled Conditions”.

    Professional band saws for metal and wood.
    Band saws for metal and timber band saws for wood are the absolute world leader and their current design in many ways determines the global trends of further development in these areas. The band saw blade production program offers more than 40 machine types – manual band saws, gravity and semi-automatic band saws, and fully automatic CNC machines. In the offer you can find a version with a swing arm of the saw blade and now also a two-column version of the band saw.

    Description: Cooperation between the CAVD and the Italian company EDILTECO has been launched. The main product of EDILTECO is POLITERM BLUE – which consists of expanded polystyrene beads coated during the manufacturing process with the EIA additive (Edilteco Insulating Additive). EIA is a special additive that, when applied to EPS virgin beads, ensures the perfect mixing of EPS beads with cement and water. It prevents the beads from joining and remaining not only on the surface of the mixture, but from being mixed in its structure. EPS is one of the best insulating materials and offers the best compromise between price and performance. Edilteco technology is one of the best tools for making lightweight thermal insulation composites and lightweight concrete. The goal of cooperation is to develop new sandwich construction components.
