  • Description of the park

    Introduction

The project of the second stage of the JVTP was implemented by the company Jihočeský vědeckotechnický park, a.s., which is 100% owned by the South Bohemian Region. This company is also the administrator of the newly created building.
The mission and purpose of JVTP is primarily to support business in the South Bohemian region, but in a broader context in the Czech Republic. JVTP is suitable both for small and medium-sized innovative companies, addressing the issue of suitable spaces for their growth, and for university graduates who can implement their ideas or business plans in the park and thus start a career in optimal conditions. It is also logical to connect the science and technology park to the University of South Bohemia, the Biological Center of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and other research institutions, schools and organizations in the region.

    Description of technology transfer

JVTP’s technology transfer activities include, for example, linking the research and application spheres, providing assistance in initiating cooperation or identifying new knowledge for technology transfer.

JVTP, a.s. implements the South Bohemian Business Vouchers project, which is a typical tool for supporting technology transfer and, more recently, creativity. These are subsidies for specific cooperation between SMEs and R&D institutions or creatives. The financial guarantor of this program is the South Bohemian Region. In the period 2014-2022, 8 years of the program were implemented and almost 121 SMEs were supported. In 2021/2022, the program was expanded to include South Bohemian creative vouchers, the possibility of cooperation between SMEs and regional creatives.

An example of a supported innovation project is the project of Acond a.s. implemented in cooperation with the University Center for Energy Efficient Buildings CTU (UCEEB). The subject of the cooperation was the design, development and testing of a sub-software block of heat pump control and the design of a comprehensive system for the deployment of heat pumps (TC) together with a photovoltaic source (PV) of electricity. The new software block now allows the control of the heat pump so that the PV power is used locally as a priority, taking into account the dynamic requirements for linear heat pump control, especially filtering the rapidly changing power of the power plant for heat pumps that require slower dynamics. It is a solution that responds flexibly to the current energy situation and is of interest to an ever-increasing circle of customers at this time.

Another supported project is a project by Scoolpt s.r.o., a company dealing with robotic 3D printing from concrete mixtures. With its idea of the first 3D printed house, the company participated in the Jihoczech business idea competition in 2020, from which it won first prize for the innovativeness of its solution. Now the company is engaged in the optimization of concrete mixtures for robotic 3D printing, with regard to the possibility of using recycled materials and other admixtures with the potential to improve the strength and static properties of the resulting products. In this case, she invited the University of Technology and Economics in České Budějovice to cooperate, which, with its expertise and instrumentation, tested the selected ingredients.

As an example of technology transfer, we can also mention the joint activity of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice – Faculty of Agriculture and HERBAVITA CZ the effectiveness of herbal mixtures, essential oils, organic acids and vitamins supporting the animal’s natural immune system. These substances have the same properties as pharmaceuticals, but do not have the same undesirable side effects, do not disturb the natural balance of the body and are not subject to a withdrawal period when used. They increase the natural vitality of the herd and the related milk production. In collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture, a new methodology has been developed to rapidly detect calf diarrheal pathogens in real time on the farm, enabling the farmer to initiate timely, targeted and effective treatment within minutes, resulting in reduced antibiotic overuse.

Within the framework of creative cooperation, a number of projects aimed at building creative brands of regional small and medium-sized companies (brand manuals, logo manuals) were implemented, quality and concise texts were prepared and structured when presenting information to customers. Regional SMEs have set up databases of photographs and video materials ready for presentation on websites and social networks. Projects aimed at designing spaces for customers, designing their own products or supplementing them with creative interactive elements that improve their user properties (eg augmented reality interface) were also supported.

    Innovative entrepreneurship training

JVTP, a.s. with a financial guarantee of the South Bohemian Region implements a program called Jihoczech – business ideas competition, which aims to support beginning entrepreneurs and new ideas of existing SMEs in a competition that offers a number of free seminars and individual consultations with the intention to turn ideas into business plans and further support them to turn into a successful business. In the four years of the competition (2018 to 2021), 83 business ideas were supported. In addition, the year 2021 was extended by Jihočech Startup Camp, an informal but intensive two-day event with people from practice focused on a simple definition of the idea, its unique value for the customer, technical possibilities of its solution and gradual steps to its implementation. After the camp, the usual series of professional seminars with experienced mentors needed to turn the business idea into a business plan (plan) started. Every year, the competition also includes effective presentation skills training and the ceremonial finals of the competition, which traditionally present business ideas to a professional jury, potential partners and investors. Marketing, information and networking support throughout the competition, but also after its end, is a tradition for participants and for us.

The “From Idea to Implementation” program, a joint initiative of regional business support organizations, has been set up to find and prepare for business ideas. These are regular cycles of webinars to support entrepreneurship and first think about your own business idea. The 1st and 2nd cycle of webinars took place in 2021, the 3rd cycle of webinars started in April 2022. Webinars with experts from practice meet regularly with great interest of participants.

In 2022, the cross-border Czech-Austrian competition of business ideas and startups called Cross-border Start-up & Idea Contest was launched for the first time. The competition is realized in cooperation with the South Bohemian Region and Upper Austria, with the professional support of JVTP, a.s. and the Austrian tech2b incubator. It is announced in 2 categories: idea and startup. The winner of each category will receive € 10,000 to start or accelerate their project. In addition, the project with the greatest cross-border impact will be awarded.

JVTP, a.s. it also provides internships for students who have the opportunity to gain knowledge from the actual operation of the science and technology park. Employees of JVTP, a.s. regularly lectures to students of the University of South Bohemia about new technologies, but also about the function of science and technology parks and their position in the innovation system.

JVTP, a.s. on the preparation of the South Bohemian Acceleration Program, a program that will help innovative start-up entrepreneurs from the region to cover the costs of accelerating their activities. The program will be implemented by the end of 2022.

    Advisory services

The activities of JVTP, a.s. is formulated in the public service obligation for the South Bohemian Region and can be divided into three areas:
    1. management of JVTP administration Stage IIA and related activities, coordination of activities necessary for operation
    2. activities related to securing relationships with established companies
    3. provision of specialized services of the science and technology park
Ensuring relationships with established companies consists both in communication with potential clients and in communication with existing tenants. It is mainly an evaluation of business activities of interested parties with possible recommendations. In the case of settled clients, JVTP prepares regular meetings of tenants to establish further cooperation.
The services provided are a comprehensive offer from the elaboration of business plans, feasibility studies, financial plans to the preparation of research, development and innovation projects, including grant advice and ensuring the protection of intellectual property. Services are also available through established companies, so the emphasis is on a balanced structure of tenants. At present, thanks to the implementation of the JVTP Services – Trend Support (PoTr) project, preferential expert consulting services are also provided for SMEs from the South Bohemian Region in the areas of innovation, optimization of business processes, their gradual digitization and implementation of Industry 4.0 elements in business practice. The project was supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade within the OP EIC – Infrastructure Services.

    Innovation infrastructure

The South Bohemian Science and Technology Park provides universal office and laboratory premises equipped with furniture and devices under favorable conditions. There are also premises for rent of a pilot nature, where it is possible to test your ideas in conditions approaching real operation, meeting rooms and technical facilities.
Part of the building of the second stage of JVTP is the so-called smart energy point, which allows to produce and store electricity not only for the building’s own needs, but to sell the surplus to the public electricity grid. The system consists of a vanadium battery working in combination with a photovoltaic system located on the roof and facade of the building. This technology increases the energy self-sufficiency of the building and reduces operating costs.
The infrastructure of the second stage of the JVTP consists not only of premises, but also of laboratory equipment, which is available both for permanent lease and for short-term lending.
Jihočeský vědeckotechnický park, a.s. operates within the joint regional initiative Jihočeský Digi Hub testing laboratories for new technologies (AI, RPA, VR + AR). In the testing laboratory, with the help of a team of experts, those interested can learn about new technologies, find out how a specific technology can be integrated into the organization’s normal processes and how to speed up, refine, reduce and streamline existing processes. Testing laboratories are prepared for small and medium-sized enterprises, educational institutions, public administration and other organizations that want to try out the possibilities and operation of new technologies before their own purchase and implementation into the activities of these organizations. A team of professional consultants is ready to advise on a technical solution corresponding to the specific needs of the organization and with the possibility of using programs to support the introduction of new technologies and innovations into the corporate environment.
The JVTP project, stage II.A is a part of the generally conceived approach of the South Bohemian Region to the provision of services for business support. As such, the park is a leader in a broader innovation infrastructure in the region, which includes organizations involved in research and development, technology transfer and support for the implementation of research and development results into practice.
This approach is covered by the South Bohemian Region project called Smart Accelerator 2 in the South Bohemian Region, which aims to connect partial support tools aimed at developing innovations in the region and create an effective innovation system that will provide comprehensive solutions to support the innovation environment. JVTP acts here as the implementer of project activities.
Involvement in cooperation networks is an important prerequisite for obtaining valid information and thus for providing quality services. From this point of view, the membership of JVTP, a.s. in the Society of Science and Technology Parks, which brings contacts to a number of other institutions and information from various areas relevant to the operation of the science and technology park. Within their regional representation, they use the Society of Science and Technology Parks of the Czech Republic, z.s. and the Association of Innovative Entrepreneurship of the Czech Republic, z.s. JVTP services in the form of virtual offices.
JVTP, a.s. is a member of the Regional Food Cluster, whose members are companies and research organizations in the field of food and other supporting organizations. Thanks to membership in the cluster, JVTP, a.s. opportunity to work with cluster members. The interconnection with the Regional Food Cluster is also strengthened by the fact that the cluster currently uses a virtual office on the premises of JVTP.

Description: The project is based on the idea of building mutual relations and creating a functional network of cross-border cooperating entities in the area concerned dealing with the topic of cultural and creative industries (sectors) and their interconnection with tourism organizations and companies. This potential has not yet been exploited in the border region. Creative stakeholders are of strategic importance, they function to a large extent as incubators of ideas and thus become the driving force of the economy. These industries bring new cultural concepts and formats, which are then adopted and developed in market-oriented industries. The field of culture and tourism is economically crucial and strongly traditional for the South Bohemian Region and Lower Bavaria. The project will map in detail the culturally creative ecosystem in the South Bohemian Region and Lower Bavaria. The established network will connect highly specialized experts and their creative ideas with organizations and companies in the cultural and creative sectors, representatives of regional organizations of innovation infrastructure, tourism, culture and public administration.
The network will respond to the current crisis situation related to the Covid 19 pandemic, seek possible solutions and make recommendations to eliminate negative pandemic impacts in organizations and companies from the cultural and creative industries and tourism, contribute to regional recovery plans using cross-border impulses and potentials for cooperation. As part of the revitalization of activities in the post-Pentecost period, the aim will be to bring ideas from creatives and integrate them into the field of culture and tourism, using the cross-border potential suitable for cooperation.
The first phase of the project is therefore the creation of proposals for short-term targeted cross-border measures, but in the long term, due attention should be paid to the systematic support of the development of cross-border cultural and creative ecosystems and tourism. Therefore, the project should provide recommendations for the creation of public support or investment strategies. These project results and proposals will be included in the Catalog of Measures.
